1. Information We Collect

LifeTrace collects the following categories of data when you use the app:

Health data is read from Apple Health (HealthKit) only after you grant explicit permission. You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health. On Android, health data comes from Health Connect instead (see section 1a).

1a. Google Health Connect (Android)

On Android, LifeTrace can read activity and sleep data from Health Connect (by Google), but only after you grant permission in the Health Connect permission screen. Connecting Health Connect is optional; the app works without it.

Data types we read (read-only):

• Steps (READ_STEPS)
• Distance (READ_DISTANCE)
• Active calories burned (READ_ACTIVE_CALORIES_BURNED)
• Sleep sessions (READ_SLEEP) — used only as the total sleep duration for the day

We never write, modify or delete any data in Health Connect. LifeTrace requests read permissions only.

How this data is used:

• The app reads today's totals (steps, distance, active calories, sleep duration) and shows them on your device in your daily journal.
• When you tap “Generate My Day”, the recorded values of all four data types (steps, distance, active calories and sleep duration) are sent over an encrypted connection (TLS) to our server, which includes them in the prompt sent to Claude AI (Anthropic) to write your AI daily summary. Values that were not recorded are not sent. Your name and email address are not sent to Anthropic, and this data is not used to train AI models.
• Our server stores the day's step count and distance with your daily log so that your history and weekly insights can be shown. Sleep duration and active calories are used only to generate the summary and are not stored as separate values on our server (the generated summary text, which is stored, may mention them).

What we do not do with Health Connect data:

• We do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with advertising networks (including Unity LevelPlay) or data brokers.
• We do not sell it.
• We do not use it to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes.
• We do not transfer it to anyone except the service providers needed to provide the features above (our server and Anthropic), and it is not read by humans except where required for security, legal compliance, or with your explicit consent.

The use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Disconnecting Health Connect:

• Open the Health Connect app (or Android Settings → Security & privacy → Privacy → Health Connect) → App permissions → LifeTrace, and turn off access. LifeTrace stops reading the data immediately.

Deleting your data:

• In LifeTrace, go to Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data on our server, including daily logs with step and distance values.
• You can also request deletion by emailing us at the address in “Contact Us”; we process requests within 30 days.
• Data stored in Health Connect itself is managed by Health Connect and is not affected; you can delete it from the Health Connect app.

Location data is collected only when you grant location access. On iOS we request "Always" access so that your daily journey can be captured automatically; however, the app works in reduced capacity with "While Using" access. On Android, location is accessed only while you use the app.

2. How We Use Your Data

• AI daily summary generation: Your health and location data are sent to our secure servers, where they are processed by Claude AI (Anthropic) to generate your personalized daily narrative. Data is transmitted in anonymized form — we do not send your name or email to Anthropic. This data is not used to train AI models.
• Happiness score calculation: Activity metrics are analyzed on our servers to compute your daily happiness score.
• Life Map: Location history is stored and used to render your interactive map within the app.
• Weekly insights: Aggregated data from your week is analyzed by AI to surface patterns and trends.
• App analytics: Usage data is processed by Firebase Analytics to understand feature adoption and improve the app.
• Error monitoring: Crash and error data is sent to Sentry to help us fix bugs quickly.
• Push notifications: If you enable notifications, we use your device token to send daily reminder notifications. We do not send marketing messages.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers protected by industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest). We apply role-based access controls and routine security reviews to protect your information.

Certain data (generated summaries, happiness scores, Life Map history) is cached on your device for offline access. Device-local data is protected by iOS's built-in data protection mechanisms.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete all associated data within 30 days.

4. Third-Party Services

LifeTrace uses the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy.

We do not share your health, location or diary data with advertising networks or data brokers. The free version shows ads through Unity LevelPlay, which collects device information as described in “Advertising (Unity LevelPlay)” below; no health, location or diary data is shared with it. We do not share your data with any other third parties beyond those listed above.

4b. AI Data Processing

Before LifeTrace sends any of your data to Claude AI (Anthropic) for processing, the app will ask for your explicit consent. You will be shown exactly what data will be sent:

• Steps and distance walked
• Active minutes and calories burned
• Sleep duration
• Approximate location (city/venue level)

This data is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI solely to generate your personalized daily summary. Your data is not used to train AI models. Anthropic processes this data under their Privacy Policy, which provides protections equivalent to those described in this policy.

You can revoke your AI data consent at any time. Without AI consent, the app will not generate daily summaries but will continue to record your health metrics and location locally.

5. Your Rights and Choices

• Access: You can view your stored data within the app at any time.
• Correction: You can edit manually added information through the app settings.
• Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data in the app (Settings → Delete account), or request deletion by contacting us at the email below. We will process your request within 30 days.
• Health data revocation: On iOS, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → LifeTrace and disable access. On Android, open the Health Connect app → App permissions → LifeTrace and turn access off.
• Location revocation: On iOS, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → LifeTrace. On Android, go to Settings → Apps → LifeTrace → Permissions → Location.
• Notifications: Disable push notifications at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → LifeTrace, or in Android Settings → Apps → LifeTrace → Notifications.
• Analytics and ads: Firebase Analytics respects the iOS "Limit Ad Tracking" system setting. On Android, you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads in Settings → Google → Ads.

6. Children's Privacy

LifeTrace is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. International Data Transfers

Our servers are located in Japan. If you use LifeTrace from outside Japan, your data may be transferred to and processed in Japan. By using the app, you consent to this transfer. All transfers are protected by the security measures described in Section 3.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. The "Effective date" at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of LifeTrace after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Advertising (Unity LevelPlay)

This app displays ads served through Unity LevelPlay, an ad mediation platform operated by Unity Technologies (formerly ironSource). To deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the Unity LevelPlay SDK and the ad networks it works with may collect device information such as the advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID), IP address, device model, operating system version, language setting, and your interactions with ads. This information is processed by Unity and its ad network partners under their own privacy policies: Unity Privacy Policy. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads at any time in your device settings (Settings > Google > Ads).
